Mammoth historical epic (a 'kolossal' in Italian) on the military campaign Scipio Africanus led against Hannibal in Africa and his victory in the battle of Zama. It was shot and produced by a massive all-Italian enterprise, resorting to thousands of actors and incurring enormous costs. It is an indirect celebration of the conquest of Ethiopia and the figure of Mussolini as a model of masculinity and a military leader.
